Enhancing the user experience of our website does not exclude those making use of assistive technology. We have internal resources dedicated to testing and implementing changes to ensure those making use of assistive technologies are well accommodated. 

Conformance status -

there are specific guidelines set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) that developers and designers are required to follow to ensure the website is designed for maximum accessibility to all users with a disability. Websites can be classified as Level A, Level AA, or Level AAA in terms of conformance. Opensoft Technologies is having an AA level and is, thus, partially conformant meaning that there are parts of our content that are not yet fully accessible.

Additional accessibility considerations – 

at Opensoft, we are committed to achieving a AAA level by incorporating some AAA requirements such as sign language interpretation for video content and no data loss after a session expires.

How we have improved your website experience

Opensoft’s website has been designed to accommodate a variety of assistive technologies. This means that users can:
  • Users can use a screen reader to navigate menus instead of a mouse.
  • Adjust how large or small font is.
  • Navigate pages more easily with the use of a high-contrast focus indicator.
  • Headings make for improved readability and navigation.
  • Collect information from media content by using captions and transcripts.  

    • Known website limitations

    While we have addressed a variety of known accessibility problems, there are still a few limitations that need to be resolved. Said limitations are listed below:
    • Current video and audio content may not be able to open with new assistive technologies.
    • Assistive technology may not be able to open older PDFs and documents.
    • Captions and transcripts are not available on old video and audio files – alternate visual content is being developed where possible.
    • The mobile version of the site cannot always be accessed using the keyboard. This can be resolved by following the alternate link in the page footer.

    Responsive web design

    With the current responsive design, the website will automatically adjust to the width of the user’s screen to allow for the easy location and reading of information. The design changes according to the size of the font. Users can make the font larger or smaller as required.

    Opensoft Technologies has included various accessibility and customization options to enhance the user’s experience. If you are experiencing problems with accessibility, then the following should be of assistance:

    Altering the text size

    To make the font size larger or smaller, the user must press down the Control (Ctrl) key and scroll the mouse wheel. Holding the Control (Ctrl) key and pressing the plus and minus keys will achieve the same result.

    Firefox and Internet explorer: accessing the “View” menu and selecting “Zoom” will allow the user to make the webpage bigger or smaller.

    Google Chrome: the font can be made bigger or smaller by clicking on the customization button and using the mouse to click on the plus or minus symbols.

    Changing the color contrast

    Windows computers: to change the color contrast, the user needs to: click “Start” → “Control Panel” → “Accessibility Options”. Under this section, the user needs to click on “Display” and make sure the “Use High Contrast” checkbox has been ticked. Different color contrast options can be selected by selecting “Settings”.

    Apple Macs: change the color contrast settings by going to “System Preferences” → “Universal Access” → “Seeing”. From here the user can alter the contrast settings by selecting the “Display” subsection.
